Etching & Priming

Today looked like the weather would cooperate, so we started hauling parts outside to acid etch, scuff and prime.  I had previously bought a PVC paint booth from another builder, and while we didn't need to put something that big together for priming parts, we took the door frame from it, zip tied some plastic fencing to it, and set it all up on two saw horses.

We used Ekoetch for the cleaning/acid etch, plus scotch brite to manually scuff up the parts. After the etch, the parts were rinsed with water (garden hose), then wiped and dried off.

This was the first time I'd use an HVLP gun.  I bought a used Devilbiss Finishline gun a few months ago. Not knowing how to set it up for this primer, the first session of priming today was pretty interesting. I just couldn't get good atomization of the primer.  We finished a handful of parts and set them out to dry.  The finish was a little rougher than I was expecting, but we'll see how it looks in the morning when it's had time to dry and cure a bit.
