The aft deck needs two shims that lay on top of the bulkheads to provide a level surface between the longerons. I made them, taped them into place, and then put the deck back on and match drilled them.
The one gotcha I'll have to deal with down the road is how the aft deck matches up with the 709 bulkhead. The front flange in the aft deck is pre-drilled, and so is the bottom portion of the bulkhead. The problem is, in order to make sure there's minimal twist in the fuselage, the aft deck doesn't necessarily end up perfectly centered on the longerons. Mine didn't, which means the holes don't match up with the bulkhead. It would have made a lot more sense for Van's to leave the flange blank and have the holes drilled after the fact. It's not a big deal, but I'll have to put a backing plate on the bulkhead to use the existing holes (since they are off by about 1/3 hole and will elongate when drilled), or maybe just drill new holes in between all of the existing holes. I'll ask Van's what the best approach is.
I didn't want to pull out all of the equipment for priming only to do the aft deck, so I read ahead in the plans and grabbed a number of parts that were up next.
I didn't quite get it all riveted together, but I started on the aft deck. Most of the rivets I could reach with my squeezer. Some I had to pull out the gun for. I'll finish up tomorrow.
